My top 11 self-care and mental health support gift ideas

Are you looking for some holiday gift ideas to support yourself or loved one’s mental health or self-care routine? I bet we all need a whole lot more of that in our lives. Take a look here at my top 11 self-care and mental health support gift ideas. I have crafted a personal list of unique ideas. It was important to me when I created this post to promote as many small businesses, women owned operations and BIPOC business owners.  To be transparent this post does contain affiliate links which I do not make commission from. I simple want to highlight some incredible business that I have a personal relationship with and deeply support. There may be some inspiration in this list derived from my holiday wish list. Just trying to make it public so my husband can confirm I provided one to him… hahah.

What is your self-care plan for the holidays?

I suggest you brainstorm your ideas for a self-care action plan before the holidays begin. It is definitely a joyful time of year (for some) and usually jam packed. But it can also be very exhausting, draining, overstimulating and overscheduled. This year (depending on where in the world you are) I hope it will be a bit more “normal” compared to the previous year. A bit more traditional, allow you to engage in festive activities, and spend time without capacity limits. To help make up for an entire year of festive celebrations we had to forego.

Remember self-care does not need to be time consuming and elaborate. Many of these ideas are beyond your basic self-care needs of eating, sleeping, taking your medications, hygiene, personal connection etc. These are the next level of self-care. In this era we could all do a better job at slowing down, resting and creating more balance in our lives.

Your Body is Not an Apology Workbook by Sonya Renee Taylor

Your Body Is Not an Apology Workbook is the action guide that gives you tools and structured frameworks which can be used immediately to deepen your radical self-love journey–such as Taylor’s four pillars of practice, which help readers dismantle body shame and give them access to a lifestyle rooted in love. Taylor guides readers to move beyond theory and into doing and being radical self-love change agents in the world.

“In this book, you will be asked to draw, color, doodle, talk to friends, take risks, and perhaps step outside of what feels like your natural gifts and talents,” Taylor writes. “I encourage you to release the need to be ‘good’ at what you are doing and instead strive to be authentic. Perfection is the enemy of radical self-love because it is an impossible illusion. When the voice of perfectionism chimes in, take a deep breath, remember that the work is about the process, not about the product, and give yourself permission to be fabulously unapologetically imperfect.

Wooden Bath Tray by King & Tupper

Sometimes self-care means turning off the rest of the world, surrounding yourself with bubbles, and diving into your favourite book. Create a spa-like oasis in your own home with this beautiful wooden bath tray. Built from a solid piece of Western Red Cedar finished with natural oil to highlight the grain, each bath tray is one-of-a-kind and features handles, a wine glass holder, and a device slot for your tablet or e-reader.
King & Tupper is a labour of love for wife and husband, Amy and Dean, and provides them with a creative outlet and connection to the community. As young parents, their passion is for child-focused products – from toys inspired by the Montessori and Waldorf methods of education to nursery, bedroom, and playroom décor – that are functional, timeless, and built from durable and sustainable materials. They also create handcrafted decor and gifts – like their bath tray – for your home and for the special people and occasions in your life.
This family owned business is offering 10% off their bath trays. Shop here!

Journals with Indigenous Artwork  by Kanata Trade Co

Journals with Indigenous Artwork designed by Canadian Indigenous artists who receive royalties for each item sold.  Proceeds from the sale assist Indigenous students attending colleges and universities.

A bit about Kanata Trade Co. We are twin Inuit sisters both attending Queen’s University.  Our journey has been made possible thanks to the help of Indspire. Like many indigenous students,  Indspire supported us through their bursary program and also through their mentorship.  We were able to have a much fulfilled college experience as a result of their assistance. Now that we are nearing the end of our studies, we would like to give back to Indspire so that more indigenous students can also have the opportunity to attend colleges and universities.

Indspire is an Indigenous national charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities, and Canada.

Kanata Trade Co is offering 15% off to email subscribers. Shop their beautiful journals and full store here.

Body Kindness book by Rebecca Scritchfield

A must have book I recommend to my clients!

This practical, inspirational, and visually lively book shows you the way to a sense of well-being attained by understanding how to love, connect, and care for yourself—and that includes your mind as well as your body.

Body Kindness is based on four principles.
WHAT YOU DO: the choices you make about food, exercise, sleep, and more
HOW YOU FEEL: befriending your emotions and standing up to the unhelpful voice in your head
WHO YOU ARE: goal-setting based on your personal values
WHERE YOU BELONG: body-loving support from people and communities that help you create a meaningful life

With mind and body exercises to keep your energy spiraling up and prompts to help you identify what YOU really want and care about, Body Kindness helps you let go of things you can’t control and embrace the things you can by finding the workable, daily steps that fit you best. It’s the anti-diet book that leads to a more joyful and meaningful life.

Please inquiry with your local bookstore to order. Also available on major book retail platforms.
